Autumn Wedding at Greysolon Ballroom – Duluth, MN | Sara & Matthew

Sara & Matthew | Elegant and Original Autumn Wedding at Greysolon Ballroom in Duluth, MN

There’s no city better than Duluth to marry autumn vibes with sea shanties. That’s exactly what Sara and Matt did for their eclectic wedding at Greysolon in Duluth, Minnesota.

There’s some amazing history in the ballroom at Greysolon. The ballroom was built in 1925, as part of Hotel Duluth. The venue features hand-carved mahogany, beautiful ornate chandaliers, and hand-painted ceilings. Over its years as a hotel, many famous guests, including Pearl Bailey and Liberace, actor Henry Fonda, the Crown Prince Olaf (Norway), and President John F. Kennedy, stayed at Hotel Duluth.

Now a space for events and private residences, this venue is one of my favorite spaces for its beautiful architecture, which I LOVE to use and showcase in wedding photos.

The devil was in the details for Sara and Matt’s wedding. Autumn leaves, candles, and tiny dragons—yes, dragons—adorned the tables of the reception hall. Matt’s smoking jacket was just that, smoking, with a red and black floral pattern. The wedding party also sported red and black.

Tradition also met its match. During the ceremony, Matt sang a sea shanty, a kitty toy was tossed instead of a bouquet (after which a donation was made to an animal shelter in receiver’s name), and Matt and Sara literally tied the knot.

My favorite part of the day: They served breakfast for dinner, and had a pie bar for dessert.
