Brewery wedding? Sign me up. Mike and Trystan opted for a small gathering at Surly Brewing Company to celebrate their big day. It was the last “nice” day of November, so fall photos were a must!
Before the ceremony, we met at Tower Hill Park—locally known as “The Witch’s Hat”—just down the street from Surly. They brought along their dog, who was a little scared of the camera, but photogenic all the same.
I love this park because not only is it beautiful, but a spot near the tower offers sweeping views of Minneapolis. It’s a photographer’s delight.
Once the park photos were in the books, we traveled down to the brewery and took some family photos. About 25 people were present to witness Mike & Trystan wedding–an intimate gathering of their closest family and friends. During the ceremony, officiated by Trystan’s father, some family members were asked to make speeches. They did not disappoint, and more than few laughs were shared.
Mike and Trystan wanted to include some DIY elements into their wedding. Mike made the wedding bands by hand and the centerpieces for the reception were made by a family member, including pumpkins and gourds she plucked from her own garden.
After the ceremony, friends arrived during the social hour to join the couple for dinner, dancing, and toasts. Mike & Trystan tore up the dance floor but had stiff competition from the kids.
We closed out the day with my specialty—night photos. The stacks next to Surly were lit red and made a beautiful backdrop.
