Wedding day best moments:
Rachel and Cody began planning their wedding with me in 2019. In March 2020, when it became apparent that COVID was going to impact their plans, they chose to split their celebration into two: they would get married outdoors with a small group of friends and family on their original date, and celebrate again in 2021.
Rachel and Cody did not have a first look, but instead exchanged letters to each other. These two have known each other since childhood (their parents are friends), and both wrote the same phrase in their letters — their wedding day is “26 years in the making.”
Rachel wore a necklace that was also many years in the making. At each life milestone in her childhood, Rachel’s mother would give her a pearl. On her wedding day, the necklace was complete.
As a surprise, Rachel and Cody’s family reached out to their friends who could not attend due to COVID with a request: write a message on a ribbon. The ribbons were tied into a garland, which was set up on the grounds for the couple to read.
Rachel and Cody shared their vows beneath the shade Mayowood’s big oak tree. After the ceremony, we took family and wedding party portraits, and then drove to Whispering Oaks Retreat for their private reception. Our evening ended with a still and quiet sunset, fitting for their small celebration of love.
Congratulations, Rachel and Cody — I’m looking forward to celebrating with you again in 2021
