Aamir and Wajihah decide told hold their Walima at the Intercontinental in St. Paul, Minnesota. The Walima is the second part of an Islamic wedding. This is the feast and celebration of the marriage of two loved ones.
We started our day at Irvine Park, where we took portraits of the bride and groom by the historic fountain. Read more about Irvine Park in my blog about St. Paul locations here.
After Irvine Park, we took photos under the grand columns of the Saint Paul Union Depot. We even got into the the lobby for Aamir to twirl Wajihah under the glass ceiling fixtures and marble walls of the historic building.
The Walima celebration was elegant and full of dancing. The stage was gorgeously decorated with white and pink flowers, a decadent couch, and white curtains. Here is where the bride and groom sit for speeches during the ceremony and take photos with their guests!
Then, of course, the dancing—lively and jovial, almost everyone was on the floor twirling and moving.
Congratulations, Aamir and Wajihah!
Note: When Aamir and Wajihah approached me about photographing their Walima, we spoke extensively about matching the style and editing of their already-existing wedding photos (taken by another photographer in San Diego). While I’m normally all about those bright, vibrant colors, we agreed their photos (separated by one year, two photographers, and approximately 2000 miles) should feel like a cohesive, complete set of images.
