Maddie and Matt’s wedding day at Nicollet Island Pavilion had everything couples love about Minneapolis wedding photography. There were riverfront views, historic architecture, and lush pockets of greenery within the urban landscape, creating a perfect backdrop in the city where they first met. Their celebration balanced elegance, meaning, and artistic expression in a way that felt genuinely unique to them.
Getting Ready and Reading of the Vows
Maddie began her morning at the Renaissance Depot Hotel, which is a favorite location for Minneapolis bridal prep photos because of its warm light and historic charm. Her hair and makeup team from WarPaint International created a timeless and natural look that paired beautifully with her Maggie Sottero gown from The Wedding Shoppe. Matt got ready at Nicollet Island Pavilion, surrounded by the quiet calm of the riverfront.
Before they saw each other, Maddie and Matt took some time to have a private moment reading their vows. It was one of the most emotional parts of the day, but it grounded them before the celebration began, and having photos of that moment is a great way to commemorate the next milestone in your love story.
First Look on the Boardwalk
Their first look took place on the Nicollet Island boardwalk with the Minneapolis skyline rising behind them. This location is one of the best spots for Minneapolis skyline wedding photos because it offers a mix of water, architecture, and soft natural light. Not to mention, it fit well with their overall Industrial Chic wedding theme.
Couple Photos on Saint Anthony Main
We then walked to Saint Anthony Main, which is one of the most iconic places for Minneapolis engagement and wedding portraits. The cobblestone street, historic brick, and exuberant greenery created a perfect blend of urban and park scenery. This lively part of the city always brings out the best candid moments.
Wedding Party and Family Photos
Back at the Nicollet Island Pavilion patio, we took wedding party photos. They had a smaller wedding party with just one person on each side, but this made portraits feel intimate and relaxed. Family photos followed immediately. Of note, photos even included a creative “stand-in” or representative for their cat, Minne. They named their cat after the city where they met: Minneapolis. Outdoor Ceremony at Nicollet Island Pavilion
Guests arrived while the couple and families enjoyed a quick break. The ceremony took place outside on the patio with the trees creating a delicate green canopy. The understated elegance of the wedding decor matched with the already present green hostas and trees, mixed in with natural lighting and a soft breeze from the river, created an elegant and enchanting atmosphere for an outdoor Minneapolis wedding ceremony.
Social Hour
There was a social hour after the ceremony under a tent on the patio where guests had plenty of space to mingle, sign a guest book, and enjoy the summer evening. This is a great time to capture candid or staged photos of the guests for the couple to look back on in years to come.

An Industrial Chic Wedding Reception with Meaningful and Artsy Moments
The reception was held inside the Nicollet Island Pavilion where guests found their seats using custom-painted small canvas boards. Maddie hand-painted them as guest favors to be taken home. That was not the only artsy thing around, as the napkins were all customized as well with a picture of Maddie and Matt’s cat Minne. Once the guests were seated under the modern lighting, the couple used The Table Dash game to get a picture with each of their guests in under 15 minutes. What followed was dinner and dessert catered by Mintahoe Catering and Events, a small, unnannounced cake cutting, and toasts after the meal.
After dessert, Maddie and Matt stepped onto the dance floor for their first dance, a moment filled with quiet emotion as friends and family looked on. When the song ended, Matt prepared to dance with his mother. But, before that began, Maddie shared a video set to the song she would have danced to with her father, Andy. He had passed away about a year before the wedding, and this tribute became a meaningful way to honor his memory and acknowledge his presence on a day that held deep significance for her.
Night Time City Skyline Photos
We ended the night back on the boardwalk. The skyline portraits mirrored their first look, and created a full-circle moment that closed the day with them reveling in the golden glow of the city lights.
